Our Leaders & Crew

Dominic Whitehead
HYT Chairman & Founder

In 1997, alongside six other individuals who shared a common vision, Dom, together with his wife, Beryl-Anne, identified a pressing need within the community. They recognized the necessity for a nurturing space where young individuals could cultivate their drama skills and delve into the realm of artistic expression, all within a safe and supportive environment. Anticipating a modest outcome of 30 members and a mere six months of operation as a measure of success, their remarkable journey has far exceeded these expectations, as they have continued to champion the cause of youth theatre to this day.

With unwavering dedication and an unyielding commitment to the well-being and growth of each individual under their care, the chairman and founder has meticulously steered the Huntingdon Youth Theatre like a finely tuned machine. His remarkable ability to foster an atmosphere of encouragement and support has allowed countless young actors to discover their hidden talents and find their unique voices on the stage. Through his tireless efforts, he has created an enduring legacy, guiding over 400 young actors and nurturing the development of more than 30 volunteer leaders. As the years have passed, Huntingdon Youth Theatre remains as vibrant, relevant, and influential as ever.

Graeme Hammond
HYT Senior Leader

"I’ve been involved with theatre longer than I care to remember, playing a Wise Man in the school nativity then moving on to all boy operettas as an elf and village maiden! My first involvement with youth theatre was with the Library Theatre in Manchester where I spent a wonderful summer working on productions."

Since then I’ve acted,  but mainly directed as well as worked backstage with numerous groups round the area. I first found myself with HYT when asked to come help with make up for a production, my daughter Katie got hooked and I finally got really involved as a leader a couple of years later, then my second daughter Laura joined, she’s now working professionally in the West End, and I’ve never looked back!"

Dan Morris
HYT Young Leader

Dan was originally a member 10~ years ago, and played the main role in our production of 'Wind in the Willows', as a hilarious & eccentric Toad of Toad Hall. Much like many of the kids that grace our hall, he went on to college to study Performing Arts, Musical Theatre and later Film & Media Production in Cambridge. Dan has returned in 2022 to take on a Young Leader role, and has already written, directed & starred in his own play with us. "The Atlantean Candidate" played to a captivated audience, showing a keen political drama in a fictional country where a child has shockingly been thrust into a President's chair. His attention to narrative detail, in-depth writing and worldbuilding behind the scenes brings a fresh and professional quality to our productions.

Ren Twinn
HYT Young Leader

Huntingdon Youth Theatre acted as a guiding light for Ren. Having participated in numerous shows, including the esteemed 'Shakespeare at the George,' they have amassed a wealth of experience and honed their skills with us, establishing an impressive repertoire to draw from as a leader. At HYT, their approach to directing is characterised by collaboration & inclusivity, as they actively seek input from members, recognising that the collective contribution leads to an enhanced final product. Their creativity extends beyond directing, as demonstrated by their original work 'Ordinary,' an improvisation piece that passionately highlighted the importance of acceptance and celebration for individuals, regardless of their identity or who they love. Through their dedication, talent, and commitment to fostering an inclusive and vibrant theatre community, Ren sets an example for their peers and the broader community.
